and i also tried to indicate the intermezzos so that you can follow with the video

I think it great to play together again with k's choice,
it was very nice to be able to have my own group for a couple of years
but at the same time there are things about playing with this group
and singing together with sarah that i missed a lot

Making a new album is always fun
and working with gert again,
bein able to use his songs again
because there are a lot of them that are really fantastic
is very nice
it feels very comfortable as if those 6 or 7 years never were there.

When Gert and i were in the beginning
sharing songs on mp3
we thought like wow we are making a complete different album
because we came from different backgrounds
my last album was very calm
and his was completely rock and roll
So we had to redefine everything

In the past we were touring constantly,
so if me or sara made some song, we played it for each other
after some days or a week
because we were close to each other all the time
But the past few years it was really different
and the internet played an important role for us

Gert writes a different kind of songs than i
but the things we like both are a very broad spectrum
whitin which we can work
I think that s what makes k's choice
Very beatiful songs put in original not ordinary forms
and making something people hopefully really like

i do like it to be in this beautiful environment while making an album
but i didn't see a lot of it because we are very bussy all the time.

but if you go outside ordering a coffee or something it is nice to be able
to do that in a nice city,
to take a walk to the studio in the morning
but in the end we came by car because we were to tired

Gert and i agreed in the beginning
we would have to work about 7 weeks
3.5 week of repetition in belgium
were gert and the others can go home every evening
and then of course the most expensive part of making an album is the studio
and that is much cheaper in the us because the dolar is much lower than the
euro.

so we made a compromise to be here half of the time were i could go home a
little more often.
This studio was recommended by a friend of mine
who had worked here and really liked it
and when i sent the link to everybody they wher enthousiastic
our producer included, he was impressed by the stuff they had here
and i knew that this is an environment where everybody would really like to

be.

From the moment you enter there is this atmosphere that invites you
to like being here and to stay inside for a long while
to do your thing, to be creative
that is also very important in a studio
after making 4 albums together in the past
this feels again like a first one
the initial excitement from the beginning is back

at the beginning it was just because i played the guitar and sarah sang
and didn't play the guitar yet that we started doing acoustical sets
together when we were 15 16 years old

and then very suddenly they offered me a contract
and then everything went realy fast
i said i also have a brother we would like to do something together
and i remember that the initial reaction of the record company was
fantastic, she s got a brother, we have to listen to him too

And i could convince them with some songs i made myself
they came to see us in Ghent where we were studying
and they thought it could work
and a few months later we started making our first album

with not an addict everything went gradually, it was a success in belgium
and at the same time in the netherlands
and then we could go to the states, but there nothing happened,
but a whole year later not an addict became a hit there too
so it was really spreaded over time
but at the same time it went really fast
and we were on the road all the time
that it was only after it i looked back and thought
wow what did we do in those 2 years
we ve been in australia we ve been in america
a thousand of things

I also found it fantastic at that moment
but it s like you're on a train that doesn't stop
and you cant stand still and think about it
because you don't have the time for that
we came a little bit in a circle of making an album,
doing some promo, go on tour. making an album again...
It wasn't the same joy i had from making songs before,
and sarah thought the same thing at almost the same time

Because it was also a strange period in my private life,
not lang after that i divorced, met my girlfriend
all at the same time that we were going to take a break with k's choice
I also feeled the same thing in the musicians
they could lie in their chairs and relax, shows will come anyway
the looking foreward and saying we have to do this and this and this
was for everybody a little bit gone.
but the adventure and enthousiasm that i had lost a litlle
i have it absolutly back now.

You really have to be a very difficult person not to agree with gert
because he has a very soft personality
that s something i really missed the past 6 years
And even if we didn't do anithing together as musicians
we are still best friends, we can talk about everything
it s always cosy and we also often think the same

whitout even realising, we know each other so well by now
one person needs his time to wake up in the morning
the other has something else
those are things you don't see anymore after a while
it just happens

The owner of the studio also has a house were he used to live,
it s only at five minutes from here,
in a nice neighbourhood with trees and where we went
for a walk or a run some times
so we live together there
have breakfast together
have a chat at night
it s more fun than being in a hotel of course

that is something i really like
you' re toghether in a room
one reads a book the other listens to some music
and you start to talk

It s really nice to be able to show to Gert were i live
this is what i do every day
because that s far away for everybody, for my family in belgium
They can not come to feel what it is to live here

She really is half american now
she nows where everything is
I want to buy slippers for the kids
and she nows where to get them
she immediately showed everything
like there is a museum if you want to visit
there is the theatre,
but we never got till the museum or the theatre
but we now where it is

for me, and i think i can say this for everybody
this is the most fun part
being creative
you start with something in the morning
and in the evening you have something you didn't have in the morning
and that s fantastic, that feeling every day

The word compromise is even to strong i you play with a band like we

in one way or an other
It happens sometimes if you take the lead with 2 people in
some creative process, than one will pull a little bit harder than the

other, that s evident

I think when it s about the vocals that i am the one who takes the final
decision if it has to be taken

I think that s why it is really important to do something like that
together with someone you like
because i can imagine that the conflictin ideas like we have them regularly

when we are doing pre-production
that this can escalate at some moments and if you do it whit someone you re
not that close with, you can think like now its enough its the third time
today you re saying i have a bad idea or something
But that never happened between me and sarah
i sometimes think she isnt right but not more than that
she never really irritated me

Something i really see during this session is that we are doing things we
wouldnt do without each other and that i really like
whether it s better or worse than the things we make seperately
i will leave it up to others to decide about that but
I am really enthousiastic about what we are doing here

I have at this moment
and i didn't have this when we made the demos,
the feeling that this is the best album we ve ever made,
i have to add that i always have that feeling when im making an album
and ther will be a moment that i think it s all really bad,
and after that it comes back to normal
but i really have the feeling that it are all really good songs
I m really happy with it and
also a litlle bit curious becaus it all has to be mixed
but i really think we made a beautifull album
